Same here:

#1 - on my laptop (win 7 x64), it recognized the tablet when connected the first time, but failed to flash update:
'cannot reboot device'.  Now when I plug in the tablet I get 'unknown device'.

#2 - on desktop pc, I get same error in log, 'cannot reboot device'
06/30/16 15:02:30.281  INFO   : [Port 7/6] New device detected on 7/6 (id=0705000000000001)
06/30/16 15:02:55.725  INFO   : [Port 7/6] Start flashing the flash configuration with pos start state for EMMCAB250560
06/30/16 15:02:55.725  INFO   : [Port 7/6] Don't know how to reboot device EMMCAB250560, state is 'dnx_os'
06/30/16 15:02:55.725  ERROR  : [Port 7/6] Failed to reboot the device
Also, 'DMX Fastboot Mode' shows up on top of the CHUWI logo, not like the photo in top message

help!

EDIT:  SOLVED!

I had to change the 'Configuration' to 'recover', once I did that, the flash worked.  THANKS!

If you connect a keyboard or a mouse, you'll be able to choose an option.

Please make sure your serial number and model of tablet.
The Intel Phone Flash Tool  is only for all Cherry Trail Z8300 tablets, such as Hi8pro, Hi10, Hi12,HiBook, Vi8 plus, vi10 ultimate, etc.
The ManufacturingFlashTool is for the rest tablet.

I bought my Hi8 Pro last week. I installed phoneflashtool on my pc. I turned off Hi8 Pro, turned it back on by holding volume +- button and then holding power button. When orange light started blinking, I released power button.
I see yellow DNX FASTBOOT MODE. I then connected the USB cable to Hi8 Pro and PC. PC does not detect Hi8 Pro in PhoneFlashTool. In Windows 10 device manager on my PC, it does not show any new device. Plugging and unplugging the tablet will not make any change in the Device Manager. The tablet charges ok using the port, but nothing happens when I connect it to my PC (except for the orange charging light blinking). Am I missing something or is my Hi8 Pro defect?
Should I return it and get a replacement? Please let me know as soon as possible.

The tool is a .exe so I take it that I need to boot the Hi-12 into Win10, yes?
Do I need to copy the .exe to the HDD or run it from the USB stick?
Thanks!

Any idea why the Tool insists on installing an Intel DnX USB Driver on my Hi-12?

I'm hoping that doesn't create any problems.

It did refuse to recognize my Fat32-formatted Corsair Flash Voyager USB stick that everything else recognizes fine, perhaps that triggered this?

After several installs of various drivers it finished then opened the Intel Phone Flash Tool 5.3.4.1

Wait! I'm not flashing the Android portion of the Tablet from Win10 on the Tablet?

The instructions only get around to telling me that I need to do this all from a separate PC ... halfway into the instructions?

Why not at the beginning?

Arghhh! Let's see if I can back out of this mess without a bigger mess than I was trying to fix ... sigh.

EDIT: Apparently nothing permanent was changed so rebooting a couple of times = Win10 working fine.
Android still won't boot so I'll need to borrow a laptop loaded with a MS version of windows (everything
runs some form of windows, MS just captured the name of a common term like Kleenix & google did)
and flash Android.
