Hello,

i've got a chuwi vi8 plus dual boot.

i need to root android (5.1) because i must move app to SD, but withouth root it isn't the same.
I try to find out... but i didn't see anything... not tutorial or information about root.

So... someone knows about this?

Thank you,

I'm trying too to get root access to the same tablet as well. A workaround for your problem could be using adb root shell (that works in vi8 plus).
Connect the tablet to a Linux or Windows machine

From the command prompt type:
adb root
adb shell
pm set-install-location 2

That is. Now your apps will be installed to the SD by default. Still, you won't be able to move the entire app to the SD like you could with apps like link2sd pro, but it's a beginning.

I'm still working on boot.img and system.img. System.img is quite simple and works out of the box. Still, I don't know what exactly to do in boot.img with Lollipop...

It seems I did it. The procedure is not complex but you must know how to flash android using the flashing tool provided by Chuwi itself (it's a custom version of the intel platform flashing tool).
Just download the standard android firmware for your tablet.
Make sure the flashing process works correctly with the standard firmware by fully flashing android with the recover and flash-no-erase options selected.
If it works move to the following steps:
Download the latest version of supersu to the external sd of your tablet
You can get the latest version here:
https://download.chainfire.eu/696/supersu/

Don't decompress it.
Download the following image files I cooked for you.
https://mega.nz/#F!sUZQRZqQ!ge59KroVUNfg8Js8rr8yTQ

Go to the folder where you decompressed the original android firmware.
Rename boot.img to boot_old.img or whatever you prefer
Rename recover.img to recover_old.img or whatever.
Keep those files in the case something goes wrong when flashing the new boot.img and recovery.img

Copy boot.img from my package to the same directory.
Copy twrp_2.8.6.0.img (twrp custom recovery) to the same directory and rename it to recovery.img
Flash the full new firmware with flash-no-erase and recovery options.

Wait till the flashing is done.
Reboot.
When the tablet boots to android connect it to the pc and from the command prompt send the following command:
adb reboot recovery

The tablet will reboot to custom recovery.
From there choose Install (the touch screen should work) and choose the zip file containing supersu you downloaded in the first steps.
Reboot
You have now a rooted device.

Please remember that this worked for me but the procedure may brick your device if something goes wrong. Don't blame me if this happens.

Chuwi has only one version of Android available for our vi8 plus at the moment, and it's for the old d2d3 bios. If you have a newer one you should wait for the the new Android image by Chuwi, then I can modify it and share it with you all.

Thanks for the answer:
Flashing with a rooted Android would make sense, if the standby battery life (what is my biggest Problem) would become better.
were you able to find out (with an app on a rooted vi8 plus) what Drains the Batterie in standby/sleep mode?
Did battery life improve?
