Is there any hope that I can change the setting in the files and then flash it to the device?
I'm new to Android and don't really know much with Root.

Why do you need to change any setting in any files to flash Android?
It's different things to flash Androit and to root it.

So I guess what klinux is trying to say is: flash android > root > change brightness settings
What I like: change the brightness setting > flash android
that way I don't have to root.
