# Minibook x N150: My fix for the overcharge & whine issue (since Chuwi won't give us a BIOS update)

Was literally about to dump my 2-month-old N150 and buy the U300, but canceled when I saw the U300 has the exact same issues: overheating, loud fan, and no charge limit. It all comes back to the locked BIOS.

Since Chuwi’s support is notoriously bad for troubleshooting or getting replacement parts (like swollen batteries), I gave up waiting on them.

Just sharing my workaround here—and for the record, I’m not an affiliate or sponsored, just a frustrated user trying to keep my laptop alive.

I started using a Chargie (the laptop version). I plug my normal 65W PD charger into it, and then plug that into the N150’s full-featured USB-C port. I set it to stop charging at 80%, and it physically cuts the power flow.

**Why it helps:**

- Saves the battery from constantly sitting at 100% and expanding.

- Completely kills that high-pitched coil whine that happens when the battery sits fully charged.

- Less charging stress means slightly less heat, which keeps the fan a bit quieter.

It sucks having to buy a 3rd party dongle to do what a basic BIOS setting should handle, but until Chuwi actually listens to us, it’s the best way to bypass their lack of software support.

Hi,

Great tip! How does it work? The laptop cannot communicate its current charge, can it?

cheers, Jaap

A BIOS update alone cannot add battery-friendly charge limits **if the laptop lacks the specific hardware charging IC (integrated circuit) or embedded controller (EC) firmware logic designed to cut off power at a set threshold, like 80%**. Software needs dedicated physical pathways to control the battery. [[Source](https://linrunner.de/tlp/settings/bc-vendors.html)]

Chargie works because of the created path to the charging circuitry from the desktop app via bluetooth. Not the smoothest method, but better than nothing.

Thanks, that’s a clever solution. I’ll consider buying a dongle.

Cheers, Jaap
