Your new Android tablet is a thin, sleek computing machine, but it lacks some of the basic features of a computer, like the ability to connect a CANON printer. You can, however, access a CANON printer from your Android tablet by installing a printing application. You can choose to install a CANON printer app that is specific to your model of CANON printer, like the HP ePrint app. You can select an app that will print directly to your device via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, like the CANON printerShare app. You can also use an app that connects to the Google Cloud Print service, like Cloud Print.
Unlock your Android tablet, and open the application launcher. Tap the “Market” icon, and then touch the magnifying glass to open the search tool. Type in the name of the printing app that you want to use. Some options are: Cloud Print, CANON ePrint and CANON printer Share. Press “Enter,” and then tap the name of the app you want to install. Touch “Download” – or the price if the app isn’t free – and then tap “Accept and Download” to begin the installation process. When the app is installed, touch “Open.”
Set up your CANON printer to work with your Android tablet app. If you’re using a Google Cloud CANON printer app, you’ll need to configure your CANON printer to connect with your Google Account. You can find more information at google.com/cloudprint. If you’re running the CANON printer through your home network you can share the CANON printer in Windows. Click “Start,” type “CANON printer” and then press “Enter.” Right-click on your CANON printer, and then select “Properties.” Click the “Sharing” tab, and then click to check the box labeled “Share this CANON printer.” Click “OK.”
Connect the app to your CANON printer. If you’re using a Google Cloud CANON printer app, enter your Google Account information and the CANON printer will be available. If you’re using a networked application, connect your tablet to the Wi-Fi network where the CANON printer is shared and use the auto-discovery feature of the app. If there is no auto-discovery feature, you can manually enter the Internet Protocol address of the CANON printer. If your CANON printer is connected to a computer, the IP address will be the same as the computer’s. If it’s a network capable CANON printer, consult the instruction manual about how to print a configuration page directly from the CANON printer. The IP address will be listed on the configuration page.
