I just got my new laptop and set it up. However, it is very very slow. Every click or scroll or action taken seems to be lagging by 1-2 seconds which is quite long.

I imagine there is some process hogging your CPU. Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete all at the same time and select Task Manager. From there on the letters CPU in the third column, this will sort the running processes into the order of which ever is using the most CPU at any particular moment.
One thing to check is your system doing a system update as this can take up to 100% CPU.
