Chuwi Hi 9 Air external storage connection

Usually it’s my wife that uses this tablet, so I’m not familiar with the generic operations you should use with it.
In this case I would like to use an external memory pen drive, not SSD, to play some videos during a trip.
So I connected an USB cable with the Samsung 128Gb device on the other end, and nothing. The Chuwi doesn’t seem to “see it” as external storage of any kind.
Now this an external pen drive that even a cell phone can read, also Android, so what is wrong? I also got and USB direct pin adapter, no cable, and still no response from the Chuwi. The USB interface can be blown? It’s usually used to charge the tablet, and as such it works. But does it work as interface?

The flash drive must be formatted as fat32.
