I tried Fedora KDE, but the firmware issue didn’t go away, and in fact this distro sees even less usable ram than Windows. I ended up just reinstalling Windows 11 while bypassing the ram restriction, but right now the tablet is barely useable.
I’m waiting for the 8gb variant on the mail, so I’ll just disable driver updates and find a way to backup the current firmware in case this ever happens again.
He is kind, someone 's laptop was claimed to have to replace motherboard and charge USD 200 etc,
he sometimes found that the problem is just USD 10, and he wont charge you the USD200 but just something higher than USD 10.
if you really want to repair, you could persuade someone to send a working hi10x/r (must be same variant however) together with your hi10x/r to him.
he is capable. he have tools to read/write BIOS, replace chipset.
In this time, in the tech war between china and US, if you contact him for repair,
i could help to persuade him to help using Chinese’s national feeling, persuade him
to help you guys so China brands could keep a better image to … outsiders i suppose?
you may watch his youtube’s to see his level first.
but i could say he is really very best.
ps: he is in mainland, i am in hongkong, so i am not related to him commercially
btw, he could replace RAM,
so you could at the same time UPGRADE to 8GB? as some say.
but of course should ask him repair 1st, only upgrade after it is working.
but, even he could replace your BIOS,
how you may stop the upgrade? that’s a sw problem, i dont know.
always use a firewall?
sw firewall could be break by further updates.
That’s a shame on them! As you know, my Hi10X didn’t was affected by the firmware upgrade. I was wondering if the firmware image I received has something different. Provided a utility for firmware extraction, I could dump an image from my tablet and share it with you for further investigation.
OK, but as far as I know, the sound issues are just part of the problem. There’s also the halved memory issue.
Considering your description above, I can infer I have Hi10XR, and probably the firmware was intended only for this model but was distributed for the other two. Is there anyone with the same configuration as mine that also has sound and memory problems?
i bought my 1st chuwi hi10x n4100 intel soundchip intend to use air gapped, to prevent US spying.
i also dont trust china ccp neither.
then i installed fydeos, it work so well that i bought the 2nd hi10xr n4120 intel for fydeos.
only when i backup using dism, i found the drivers are all signed, thus indeep i can trust chuwi (no spyware from ccp if you install ms iso + the signed drivers).
so, use as air gap, as a toy playing os is the proper use i think.
just somehow it also could work as a trust-able platform. it already did very well, so far.
Hello, we are still learning about this issue. We will contact you as soon as we have the result.
Sincere regards, we apologize for the inconvenience caused
That is what they told me too but since then, they have refused to acknowledge my emails. I don’t think this is an “official answer” per se (did you see this posted publicly as an actual statement by Chuwi)? I am more inclined to believe that this wording from Chuwi is a means to appease us. I’m left with a Hi10x that is now lifeless and Chuwi now don’t want to know.
Fortunately, Amazon do want to know and have been made aware of this. Hopefully, Amazon will withdraw all sales of Chuwi products in order to protect other consumers from further damage caused by the totally inept Chuwi.
