Ubuntu spins are my preferred Linux distributions, simply because they are best supported. I run Ubuntu Cinnamon on my i5 8th gen desktop computer, and Xubuntu on my 2014 Macbook Air. Recently I have installed Kubuntu 24.10 on the MiniBook X N100.
Installation works out of the box. All hardware, including WiFi, Bluetooth, USB charging, external USB display, is supported. Auto-rotation works, but I don’t use it. Tablet mode (disabling keyboard in tablet mode) doesn’t work. Well, I tried using it as a tablet, but I don’t like it and prefer to use it as a laptop.
Kubuntu works great for me. Everything is included: Office, Web Browser, Multimedia players, etc. And if you use the standard applications of the distribution, they will be kept updated and safe.
We all know the MiniBook’s display is set to portrait by default, so after installation you must perform some minor tweaks to correct the screen from portrait to landscape. In addition, a screen scale of 150% makes reading easier.
