I just bought a Minibook X from Chuwi’s US website (I missed the summer tech sale by 2 days, LOL, but that’s ok), and I’m really looking forward to it. I do web design/programming and teaching (I teach online mythology and composition courses).
I am used to the form factor and tiny keyboards, having used an WinXP ASUS Eee netbook from 2009 to 2015, then on a Chromebook Asus flip until about 2021 (when I dropped it and cracked the screen, which I replaced, but the touchscreen is borked because I have big hands and not a lot of patience), and am REALLY looking forward to a windows machine that hearkens back to how I used the netbook with similar form factor and a windows install.
I was excited when I found this device, and even with all the possible hiccups, I’m still looking forward to putting it through its paces (and playing some of my favorite 2000s games maybe).
For those of you who have gotten this machine, what would your suggestions be for the first things to tweak in the settings? Some things I’m planning on based on the board would be checking the screen refresh rate, turning off backlight settings (possibly installing the software updates mentioned in a few spots), and tweaking Windows power settings and mouse settings so they flow with how I do things (plus installing brave, GIMP, GOG, Steam, WinSCP, MS Office, and Putty). I know someone had suggested more heatsink compound on a few parts, but I’m not planning on that until I know it’s necessary.
What other suggestions might there be, or anything else that you’ve done that has really made the use of the minibook really shine? Thanks in advance!
