I’m not sure how forthcoming Chuwi would be with this information but I was wondering if anyone knew if there was an impending update or new version of the current Minibook X 2025 (the N150 with 16gig of ram onboard).
I made some enquiries but was told that they were out of stock of them a month or two ago, the last time I heard of this type of stock situation was with a later run of the 2023 N100 which was eventually replaced by updated components (I think the N150 with then 12gig on board?).
The current model dates from I think mid 2025 and it’s now July 2026, is anyone here aware of a new model (usually an evolved update) coming soon at all? AFAIK I couldn’t get a current model either way due to the stock issue, wasn’t sure if this was due to RAM shortages or not.
Has anyone heard any discussion about this at all? I’m tending towards this series but wasn’t sure if there was an update pending.
Yeah I just saw that now! I’m curious about the impact on battery life, the space inside this thing must be quite confined; I’d happily wear a thicker and heavier unit for a greater battery life myself.
Been doing a little more looking into the U300 - I think they wanted to go for something higher in power but the battery draw increases do concern me. The U300 has a base power rating of 15W and can turbo up to 55W, whereas the N150 is hard-capped at a tiny 6W TDP; they both idle quite low (which is rather typical of the use case) but I can’t see how they can function here without rather sharply increasing the battery capacity - lest they risk choking the battery lifespan of the unit. The problem with ultra-portables is that their use case is often well from power sources, their portability encourages this; it’s why the high end Thinkpads (X series, etc.) have quite so much work done on their battery capacity, they’re intended for more than a day’s use from a socket in the case of one of the newer HPs.
I haven’t seen anything mentioned for the battery capacity of the new Minibook X U300 on the battery, has anyone seen details of this?
I have never seen independent battery tests for Chuwi Products. Sponsored testers and wannabe tester remain vague on autonomy or copy Chuwi’s marketing claims.
At current costs and margins I don’t expect the Minibook U300 to include low power components and high battery capacity at the selling price. I think you will need a powerbank or AC socket if you use it for more than 4 hours.
I like the form factor and appreciated the price of the Minibook N100, not the autonomy. I have compromised and got a powerbank.
oh I get what you’re saying - they actually have used rather low power consumption components already AFAIK, the optimisation may not be as strong but it’s there; the N300’s increased draw though is undeniable so I’m hoping they’re matching it with a newer and higher capacity battery pack internally; personally I’ve owned tiny devices with insufficient battery capacity and sadly I found the utility value lacking in them, the battery anxiety that EV drivers experience is something I’d have since the 1980s (!). My understanding is that there’s not a huge amount of difference for battery packs when you’re at the manufacturer/OEM level, it’ll probably come down to what they can realistically stuff inside the case.
The N100 is a 6 Watts CPU, while the U300 is at minimum 15 Watts. I found one reviewer claiming a bit over 4 hours video playback at 200 nits with the N100. While the battery capacity for both the Minibook N100 and U300 is the same (~29 Wh) I would expect less autonomy for the U300 version.
Thanks Jaap - so they’ve confirmed that they are shipping with the same battery capacity? That’s indeed unfortunate. I’ve been reading that the U300 has a maximum TDP of 15w but it’s typical draw will be a fair bit less as the chip is typically closer to idle most of the time; that said browsers alone are getting awfully aggressive with CPU now so I think the old measures from 5+ years ago won’t last long. I sincerely hope they have a larger capacity battery in this, it’s been holding me back from going for it; I even considered going for the N150 model but that doesn’t seem possible any more.
