Hi I bought UBox after reading it is pretty quiet mini pc. I did not expect any speedster but I don’t mind as I don’t play games. All works great except the fan is running almost constantly. Sometimes it stops but just for a few second before it starts running again. All clear audible. Looking at the sensors I can see the temperature is jumping to 60 Celsius sometimes after just switching the windows in Windows or Linux I could not imagine I would start a game on this. Does anybody have the same experience?
Yes, on mine the fans are also running almost constantly at a high speed even when the CPU is idle and temperatures are not even warm, only about 40 degrees Celsius. I also read that it’s a quiet PC, but mine certainly isn’t.
It’s normal, it happens on any PC when running heavy activities, I recommend limiting the processor frequency a little to avoid the fan noise, I have the same model and everything is fine
When running heavy tasks yes, but it is not normal if the CPU is at less than 5% load and at around 40 degrees temperature. Then there’s either something wrong with the thermal design or there’s a hardware/software/BIOS issue. I suspect a hardware issue given that other people do not have this problem with the same model.
Agreed. In linux it can go as up as 55 in idle sometimes. The very same immediate moment I started Minecraft I was at 75. I would try to change the thermal paste but being a bit afraid of disassembling it. The fan is only on 2 screws but connected with the rest with a band. Not sure where the cpu exactly is.
Ok. One thing that Chuwi needs to get credit for is how everything is accessible without any complications. I’ve decided to try a different thermal paste and the access to heatsink and cpu just can’t be more simple. Nothing is in the way. The heat sink itself is really a joke with it’s copper surface far from being flat and I believe that is the problem. The original paste was basically everywhere. I was not able to clean it from the cpu surroundings due to the stuff there. But it look ok and not dry. I’ve applied a bit of Noctua H2 and run a Cinebench after. It was running approximatelly 3 degrees of Celcisou lower on multicore and 1 on singlecore. On idle it is hard to tell. It seems a slightly better but not much.
I ended up returning mine. According to Chuwi support, the fan noise at idle is normal. It’s a pity because I don’t think it is necessary for the fan to run that much, and apart from the noise it’s a very nice machine for the price.
How did you return it? I am still not decided whether to keep it or not. There is also an option to change the fan curve in Bios (with BIOS debug mode enabled) which I might try.

60°C isn’t dangerous, but it’s definitely on the warmer side for a mini PC doing light tasks.
