Trying to use Linux on my brand new RXBox. Problem is, the system always boots to a black screen, unless nomodeset is used.
When using nomodeset, the result is no hardware accelerated graphics, which defeats the point of the Radeon GPU!
I have tried multiple Linux distros, and multiple Linux kernels (5.4,5.5,5.11,5.13,5.15). I even tried installing the “latest” amdgpu driver for Linux. None have worked.
The screen goes black at this point in the boot process:
switching to amdgpudrmfb from EFI VGA
This suggests to me there is a problem on the RXBox with the current amdgpu drivers. Using nomodeset disables this step.
I have tried multiple grub mods (e.g. amdgpu.dc=0), again with nothing working.
Are there any updates (BIOS, drivers, firmware, etc) available which might address this? Is the AMD Radeon RX Vega 8 supported under Linux at this time?
