Bios chip location and type

Hi,
I have bricked rzbox and I need to flash bios with a programmer to try save it from be a paperweight.

Can someone tell me where the bios chip is ( I mean precise location on the motherboard) and what type of bios Rzbox have ? (winbond …)

I have version with 4900h

thanks

if you send me a picture of the motherboard i can ask tech

Hi Team,

Thanks for the help here’s the motherboard picture.
In my understanding, the box in red should be the BIOS chip.

  • Is this the correct one? ( or where is located I may be missing it )
  • What is the exact code of the BIOS chip? ( I can read “WINBOND 25X16CLNIG 2042” but is very blurry would be great to know the exact code to check the voltage)

You are right. the chip is the red one.

I asked tech but they dont have the number of the chip
:frowning:

Thanks a lot for the clarification.
Can you kindly provide a non-corrupted version of BIOS files so I can try to flash and recover the machine?

When flashing make sure the chip is NOT write protected and the flasher is connected right way to the chip.

Challenge is to find the right winbond 25x bios chip model.
On the chip it reads 25x16CLNIG - 2042 that seems to lead to s 16mbit Chip ( 2mb )but the BIOS file here is 16MB that lead to a 128mbit Bios chip… i’m bit confused.

I’ve successfully installed the CH341 programmer, but I really need to understand the BIOS chip model.

  • Does anyone have a Rzbox where is possible to read it better ?
  • How to understand if chip is write protected?

I’ve played a bit with zoom and contrast the chip is a

WINBOND 25X10CLNIG and that’s according to specification an 1Mbit chip seems too small for the bios file shared. @support can you kindly check we should be able to share the bios file and by the size of the file we need to understand, this may not be right

Send me your serial number and i will check the BIos files.

By checking the docs of the chip you mentioned it lists that if the WP (write protect pin, pin 3 on chip) is low, it IS write protected, so you need to set it HIGH to DISABLE write protection.

Thanks a lot.
So need to resolve that, but the bigger challenge is another as you can read on the spec sheet:
“The W25X10CL (1M-bit) Serial Flash memories provide a storage solution for systems”

The bios I have is 16MB and is clearly not correct, does anyone have the proper (1Mbit) BIOS File?

You’ll need to resolve that with support. Maybe try looking on older RZBox posts.

@ChuwiSpainSupport can you kindly post the BIOS file for RZBox 4900h?

Any feedback for BIOS?

Please send me the serial number, i dont see it in the post. I dont know why this post did not go up.

Hi Team @ChuwiSpainSupport thanks for sharing the BIOS file.
The file size of the BIOS you shared is 16MB
The chip we checked with the technical is The W25X10CL (1M-bit) so can’t contain 16MB.

Can you kindly check with technical team and point me to the correct BIOS chip?
(I need to flash with an external tool since not having the post prevent me to do via USB)

Thanks for the support!

As i said before , i asked tech to tell me the number of the BIOS chip but they dont have it, as we dont have any models anymore of that computer to check it :frowning:

I’m not asking for the code of the Chip. The bios file you shared is 16MB, so we need a chip capable of hosting 16mb of data.
Where is the bios chip located? I assume there is a documentation around the motherboard in the tech team. ( i hope ! )
