Black Screen Issue with CHUWI Corebook X i5-12450H

Dear Support team,
I have CHUWI Corebook X i5-12450H. From the beginning I have the occasional black screen at boot issue. To workaround and get the display back I have to…

  1. Open laptop,
  2. disconnect battery,
  3. Drain (by pressing power button for ~15 seconds while battery is disconnected)
  4. Reconnect battery
  5. Power ON, still there will be no display but then I have to look at black screen and follow below steps
  6. Press escape about 5 times (odd number) (This is to launch BIOS interface)
  7. Pres F3 , then left arrow, then enter (this is to load optimal BIOS settings and confirm YES)
  8. Press F4, then left arrow then enter (this is to save and exit BIOS and confirm YES)
  9. Wait for few seconds
Then I see the CHUWI logo comes up and laptop boots to OS.

I have not had time to go to CHUWI service center in Hong Kong yet. The laptop was purchased in Nov 2024 in Hong Kong. System Info as follows
Model: [NB-CBX151T]
BIOS Vendor: [American Megatrends] / Core Version: [5.26] / Compliancy: [UEFI 2.8; PI 1.7] / BIOS Version: [ADL_P_IDL525_S_S45_V0.59.1] / Buid Date: [2/29/2024] / PD Version: [16.01].

OS: Ubuntu 25.04 x86_64
Host: CoreBook X ADL_P_IDL525_S_S45_V0.59.1
Kernel: 6.14.0-32-generic
Resolution: 2160x1440
CPU: 12th Gen Intel i5-12450H (12) @ 2.000GHz
GPU: Intel Alder Lake-P GT1 [UHD Graphics]
Memory: 32GB
HDD: 1TB NVMe

Do you have a permanent solution for this? Opening the screws and resetting laptop often is no fun especially in the middle of work. Thanks in advance.

When you buy a device and it doesn’t work as it should the first time you use it, there’s only one solution: return it. where you bought it, ask the seller You have 14 days to return if something doesn’t work properly.

I think Chuwi doesn’t have support for Linux, since it doesn’t have support that could be why it doesn’t work well.

Dear @bruzan2025 ;

Thanks for you response.

I understand I should have, but I did not. The product is still under warranty and I have extended warranty to report this. Except this black screen issue the laptop is great. It does what it should. From my research I understand this is reported at many places but no solution was provided by CHUWI yet. Hence wanted to raise it here first and then take it for repair.

I understand there is no linux support. But this is not a OS related (or display driver related) issue. Laptop is not able to display its own logo and UEFI initialization messages at boot regardless what OS it runs. I still have the Windows key backed up before installing linux and have switched OS a few times to verify this. If you look at my workaround it clearly shows post hard reset with battery disconnection, I can enter BIOS and restore optimized defaults by following key sequence even though display is black /blank. This means the system is running in background except display has some issue.

Will take it to CHUWI service; but I am concerned my machine will be kept there for extended period of time to investigate. So wanted to get this to the attention of the support first to see if any other customer already faced this issue and/or any solution exists. Also I believe my workaround published above can help others with similar issue.

Thanks again for your response.
