Chuwi Hi 10 Frankstein (Display incompatibility between similar models)

I have 2 tablets:

  • HI 10 Pro (CW1529) with a dead motherboard
  • HI 10 Plus with a broken display (touchscreen)

I tried connecting the display from the HI 10 Pro to the motherboard of the HI 10 Plus. It turned on and showed an image, but the image was vertical (when it should be horizontal) and distorted. I know the problem is not with the display because it was perfect before the motherboard died.

I believe this is some BIOS configuration issue on the tablet. My question is, how do I fix this? Can I take the BIOS from the HI 10 Pro and put it on the Plus? (since technically the specifications are the same, but the motherboard models are different).

HI 10 Pro: 75P3R3 C109D
HI 10 Plus: 68S1R2 C189

Or is there something else I can do?

Did you try playing with resolutions in windows? (or changing the display position)

Yes, I tried changing the settings in Windows, but without success. It still had this issue in the image the same way

Sorry but i dont understand, why would you want to connect the display to another motherboards that it is not its own?.

Try entering BIOS to see if the issue is same there or is it a windows issue. Also check that the screen cable is secured properly.

And each of them has a defect, one has a faulty board (doesnā€™t work) and the other has a broken display (doesnā€™t work).

I wanted to combine the two broken ones to make a functional one, by joining the motherboard of one with the display of the other.

I performed the test of entering the BIOS, and the same problem occurred, with the same behavior.

I believe there might be a different configuration, as the displays are in different orientations: the smaller one is horizontal while the larger one is vertical (you can even notice that the Windows ā€˜loading circleā€™ appears in different positions, and in the case of the BIOS, on the smaller screen, when you first enter, it is horizontal (rotated 90Āŗ to the right), while on the larger one, it is vertical (normal mode, just like any other notebook).

I am sorry but Tech told me they cannot help on that, as they dont think it will work as they are different pads.
Is possible some advanced users in the forum may have another idea, or maybe you could try in Reddit, i have seen others doing so deep changes

Got it, Iā€™ll do some research to see if thereā€™s any way to modify this, as I believe itā€™s just a BIOS configuration, because the screen works, itā€™s just miscalibrated. And since both are not working, if I end up damaging the board or the screen during the process, itā€™s no problem.

Anyway, I appreciate the support!
Iā€™ll search here on the forum and on Reddit to see if I can find anything.

Just one last question: would it be possible for you to send me a BIOS from any HI10PRO with the ā€œcht-p12A_mainboard_v103ā€ board for me to test? I know Iā€™m going way beyond whatā€™s considered safe and officially supported, but as I mentioned, theyā€™re already broken, and any further damage wonā€™t be an issue.

Thank you!

Hey, might be a long shot from me, but iā€™d say itā€™s probably screen configuration/calibration issue rather than BIOS since most commonly the cable used in windows laptops/tablets for connecting the internal screen is some kind of eDP connector, which is just DP, but smaller and flatter. Since itā€™s a standard like HDMI or DVI or normal DP it should work with any other eDP laptop screen just fine just as if you connected normal DP to different screen.
In short I would shift my focus on the screen build-in circuitry to see if there are some dip-swiches or knobs to adjust v or h position of screen and stuff like that (maybe configurable with a resistor too). I donā€™t own any Hi 10 tablets so I canā€™t be sure, but from pictures you sent it does trully look like a flat ribbon eDP connector of some sort.
Good luck on your experiment ;3

hi,
can you please help me, my device bios bricked during android reinstallation , after getting new bios from support device power on but black screen, can you please give me the dump bios of your C189 ,

Sure,
This is the BIOS I used on mine:

Hi10ProHQ64G42170603670BIOS.zip (7,3,MB)

"Project update: I finally got some time to test the BIOS theory, and it WORKED!!!

I flashed the Hi 10 Pro BIOS onto the Hi 10 Plus board and it worked perfectly; now the display is showing the image correctly.

I had to update some drivers (Touch/Camera/GPIO) using the Hi 10 Pro drivers, and now everything is working perfectly!

Even though the boards are from ā€˜different versions,ā€™ as I detailed in the first post, they appear to be compatible with each other. I conducted some tests and so far no errors have been found. If I encounter any, Iā€™ll come back here to report!

Thanks ,
do you program bios using bios programmer or USB drive on boot menu,
also do you have backup the original dump file

I use an external programmer, the CH341A with the ā€˜alligator clipā€™ accessory, to flash the BIOS without needing to remove the chip from the motherboard. Unfortunately, I no longer have the original dump, only the one that was sent to me, as the original was lost during some old tests I had done on the defective board

Thanks but this bios not work for my model, power on but no display, Maybe original dump bios is needed for me,
i also use CH341A to flash the BIOS

What is your model? Even though it is a hi10 pro, there are variations between them. The best way is to take the serial number from the back of the tablet and ask here on the forum so the support can send you the exact BIOS for this model.

How did you perform the recording? Did you clean the CI first? Did you configure the CI model correctly in the CH314A program? Try different programs (different versions) as there might be an error during the recording.

I also found these 2 dumps from this tablet a while ago, Iā€™ll send them to you, maybe they will work.

How is the tablet behaving? Does it light up? Does the display backlight turn on? Have you tried connecting it to an external monitor?
backuobios.zip (6,3,MB)

if you send the serial number i can provide the original BIos
Thanks Lopesleo to help others
