Hi jollero, I also bought my lapbook pro in Lazada last Dec 2019. This morning, Sept 7 2020, the hinge on the type-c port broke. I opened the bottom cover and found that the plastic where the hinge is screwed has cracked. I messaged the official Chuwi official store in Lazada and informed them of this known issue. This is the main laptop of my son for home schooling. Hopefully Chuwi Lazada honors their 1year warranty and have the laptop repaired or replaced. Still waiting for their response.
Hi,
I too have same issue with hinge broken. I ordered it from Wish. Who should I report it. As others expresses, its a great laptop but hinge broken too quickly.
Hi. Bought this for both my son and daughter and they’ve both had those happen now.
My son’s a couple of weeks ago, and my daughter’s just now.
Still not heard a response from the Chuwi official Spain store via AliExpress from when I first mailed after it happened to my son’s.
I have exactly the same problem. Unfortunately bought it second hand in Belgium so unsure if I can do anything about it, but the hinge broke and smashed the screen :(. I’m now back in the UK for the holiday and nobody can replace it! Please help. It’s evidently a manufacturing error according to this post!!
I have the the same problem as well, although I am extremely careful with my gadgets.
the problem is the following:
the hinge itself is extremely solid with a strong torque which is meant to keep the laptop open at any desired angle.
the problem is that the plastic base where the hinge is screwed on to, is not strong enough to
counter the force of the torque, so every time you open the laptop you are working the thin piece of plastic base, and eventually it will give in. [guaranteed – no way around it] I tried to loosen the grip of the hinge by slightly trying to pry it open with a screw driver, but the Hinge metal is forged steel. This would definitely be a recall in the USA but I don’t know if a Chinese company will Honor it’s clients that way! [at the least give a rebate for a new purchase for another product, ANOTHER MODEL . that’s the problem purchasing on line - the high torque to open the laptop is a dead giveaway of future problems, but I missed that purchasing on line.
yep same issue here. I think the hinge problem was exacerbated by the fact the screws were also loose from the factory.
its a major design flaw to expect the gold-coloured inserts which are only anchored into the plastic frame to withstand the flex and torsional forces of the lapbook screen.
HI,
I have the same problem with the hinge of my LapBook Pro.
I bought the pc on bangood,@managment please let me know how to get a new pc or get back.
I bought the laptop on April 2020.
Same issue as here…I send to the place I bought it and the seller (Chuwi Malaysia) insist that this is human error that led to it. And he explain that this required a strong force to pry open it till all the glue/clip or whatever you want to call it BROKEN. bear in my mind this laptop is use by my daughter with my wife supervision all the time during her online class. This is definitely defective and all the seller can do is to glue it back.
I am seeking only for a fair compensation of repairing it and I AM NOT REQUESTING FOR A FULL REFUND OR NEW LAPTOP!
Same thing happened to me a while back. The structure design is crap and sooner or later every single Lapbook Pro will break (the plastic chasis).
I just poured quite a lot of of special glue in the corners that hold the top cover with the hinge and all screw sockets. Much more durable than original design. Choose some hardening glue.
And don’t even bother to contact Chuwi. Their customer service is beneath useless. Remember how much you paid - probably not much more than sum of components prices, so I’d only expect some basic software support. But that’s also not available
I’ve had the same issue since about 10 months after purchase - it’s now 22 months since I purchased the laptop.
I haven’t used the laptop in a long time, but was in touch with CHUWI customer service 4 or 5 months ago about getting this repaired along with the battery (which doesn’t charge above 0% although the laptop will turn on when plugged in).
I’m unclear on whether the European Union legal guarantee of 2 years applies to me or not, but I’m prepared to pay for the repairs to be done by CHUWI Spain. I’d like to know how much this would cost me, and I’d like to be sure that the hinge will be properly fixed and the battery replaced.
I bought the Lapbook Pro through AliExpress in November 2019. I’ve been very happy with it other than these two issues and still think it’s an excellent product for the price charged. I’d like to get it fixed soon so I can use it again.
Unfortunately I do not have photos of the disassembly of the hinges, but I am sending you some to give you an idea of how to do it. The protector that covers the wiring between the base and the screen is removed with a plastic spatula or any flat instrument and by levering it, since it is held only by snap tabs. The hinges are secured by 7 screws, 4 on the base and 2 on the screen. Once the hinges have been removed, the clip that is located at the end of the shaft must be removed, and then the two pieces that make up the hinge must be removed (a lot of force must be applied to separate them). Once disassembled, the hinge axis is sanded with a fine sandpaper until it is verified that the turning force, once the hinge is assembled, has decreased appreciably.
