I’ve read many good things about the Minibook X N100. But also a lot of challenges to get Linux working correctly. Fedora 40 seems to be best distro.
For me Fedora 40 is a bit bloated. Can’t stand the daily/weekly updates of 1Gb.
I’d prefer to use ChromeOS Flex, which you can call a Linux derivative having a different desktop. Updates are biweekly using an immutable safe A/B partition scheme.
Unfortunately Flex uses an old kernel 5.15 which will create a lot of problems on the minibook e.g. screen, wifi, BT etc.
However there is a ChromeOS derivative github project called Brunch. It’s latest version r125 can run kernel 6.6.30.
I am running Brunch as my daily driver on my windows laptop, which can also boot linux and windows.
I am considering to buy the minibook to have a lighter laptop, if you are willing to do this experiment for me.
Some questions that I have.
- Has anyone tried to install Brunch in addition to Linux or want to test if brunch will work as a 3rd boot item?
With the github linuxloops project, you can easily install Brunch with one script command into a linux image file instead of a disk partition. Only the grub boot menu item you need to add by hand, but this is well documented in the Brunch github readme file.
- can someone confirm that kernel 6.6.30 does not have screen [tearing] or wifi issues?
I heard of bluetooth issues, which can be resolved by making symlinks to 2 firmware files.
ChromeOS settings has capability to change screen orientation.
- Are there more issues to mention with 6.6.30 except for tablet mode/accelerometer, as I am only interested in using the minibook as a laptop with a touchscreen?
