Touch Keyboard Not Opening Automatically When Physical Keyboard Is Disconnected (After Windows Reset)

Hi everyone,

I’m experiencing an issue with the on-screen touch keyboard on my device, and I wanted to ask if anyone else has encountered a similar situation.

When I first received the device and completed the initial Windows setup, the touch keyboard would automatically open whenever there was no physical keyboard connected — just as expected.

Later, I installed Linux alongside Windows in a dual-boot setup to test things out. After trying Linux for a while, I realized that features like pen support weren’t as efficient as I had hoped, so I decided to factory reset the device and return to Windows only.

Currently, everything else works perfectly on Windows: camera, auto-rotation, sensors, etc. However, the touch keyboard no longer opens automatically when no physical keyboard is connected.

I checked all the related settings in Windows. If I set the keyboard to “Always show”, it works — the touch keyboard shows up. But if I choose the option “Show the touch keyboard only when no keyboard is attached”, it doesn’t open, even when there’s clearly no keyboard connected.

I contacted support about the issue. They sent me a BIOS update, but it turns out that the version they provided is actually older than the BIOS that came pre-installed on the device. On top of that, I couldn’t install the BIOS because the Windows-based method relies on wmic, which has been removed in newer Windows versions.

I’m also not sure if this issue is even BIOS-related, and I’d prefer not to downgrade my BIOS unnecessarily without knowing for certain that it will solve the problem.

Has anyone else faced this issue? I’d appreciate any help or suggestions.

Thanks in advance!

I have the same issue, as you described in detail. Unfortunately. How do we update the bios btw?

I read what support gave you but they did not send any BIOS , unless they did from another email.

Did you download from other site?

Did you try to reinstall the windows that is provided by us? or did you reinstall another external windows?

Thanks for your reply!

Just to clarify:

I actually did receive a BIOS file from official support via email. They sent me the following link:
https://www.mediafire.com/file_premium/h6qjocgmofhpew5/CW1296.V01.13_N150.zip/file

I tried to install it, but the process failed. Also, I compared the version with what originally came installed on my device, and it appears that the provided BIOS version is older than the one my device shipped with. For reference, I’ve never installed or flashed any BIOS myself — the current version was already present when I first received the device.

As for Windows: I did not install it via USB or from an external ISO. I simply used the built-in Windows reset feature and chose the option to “Download and reinstall Windows” rather than using the local reinstall. I assumed this would result in fewer updates.

Interestingly, after the reset and fresh Windows installation, the Chuwi Easy Care application was automatically pre-installed. So it seems like the system still pulled a version close to the factory image.

Let me know if you’d recommend reinstalling a different version of Windows (such as the official factory image), or if there’s anything else I can try.

Thanks again!

Is it possible for to share also this newer version with 02.17?

Unfortunately, I don’t have the BIOS file for version 02.17. My device came with this version pre-installed when I received it, and I haven’t made any BIOS updates since then. So I’m unable to share the file, as I never received it separately.

Is there any chance of getting an official response? It’s been quite a while, and there’s still no solution or feedback. I’d really appreciate some guidance or an update.

Installing a BIOS update is a risky operation.
You should only install a file that can provide you with support.
